The recently launched ABB-tacteo KNX sensor has been crowned as the “Best of the Best” by a panel of expert judges.

ABB’s individually-configurable control element for intelligent buildings beat off stiff competition to earn the title in the Innovative Architecture category of the prestigious Iconic Awards 2018, presented on 8 October at the Expo Real Trade show in Munich.

Judges were particularly impressed by the functionality and flexibility of the ABB-tacteo KNX sensor. The sensor is designed to meet the stringent demands of the luxury hotel and high-class residential building market. The capacitive glass KNX sensor even reacts without contact. If you approach the sensor with your hand, the status lighting switches on. If, however, you touch the sensor with the entire palm of your hand, a pre-programmed function is triggered. Each product is individually made to order, to meet customers’ requirements.

Oliver Iltisberger, managing director of ABB´s building products business, said: “The launch of the ABB-tacteo KNX sensor earlier this year was a significant milestone in our journey towards Industry 4.0 – the combination of automation and data exchange.

“Our sensor is one of the most user-friendly on the market. Each sensor is unique and features a flat design to blend seamlessly in to any setting. We are delighted that the Iconic Awards judges agree that this product is the best of the best.”

The ABB-tacteo KNX sensor allows customers to choose which icon and labels they require via an online configurator at the myBuildings portal - a secure and simple to use online platform. Powered by ABB Abillity, the company’s unified, cross-industry digital offering, where customers can remotely control and manage a range of digital tools and services around the clock.

The glass KNX sensors offers virtually unlimited possibilities for intelligent building networking. Functions such as heating, blinds, lighting or comfort scenes can be easily controlled to create flexible every day environments.

The ABB-tacteo KNX range also offers secure access control for the hospitality industry. The sensor can perform a wide range of hotel management tasks (such as load activation, make up room/do not disturb settings and room number signaling) and can be integrated in the overall KNX installation, that can be fully controlled and monitored from a central point, such as the reception desk.
