Tim Miscovich, the chief commercial officer at wtec, is an executive with an extensive background in the technology and smart building industry. How did you become involved in the Smart Buildings industry?

I joined the wtec team back in 2017 in our Germany office and returned to the US in 2019. I have been very fortunate during my 7 years to have met a ton of great people and have worked on smart and sustainable projects around the globe.

What excites you about the Smart Buildings industry?

That every day is an adventure! Not every adventure is fun, but the ever-evolving world we are a part of is something special. We are all the driving force that will determine what the future of the built space looks like.

Are there any particular technologies that we should be aware of?

Too many great ones out there to name them all. I’d recommend to everyone that they take as much time as possible and ask trusted advisors to make sure they get to see and learn about as many technologies as possible.

What services does your organisation offer?

We develop, manufacture and market smartengine, a low voltage lighting and sensor technology. We provide best-in-class savings for lighting, while collecting data that feeds 3rd party systems like BMS, BOS, AV and more.

Are people aware of the regulations that they will need to comply with in the near future?

I don’t believe so. Certain markets like New York City are very well informed on their Local Law 97 but the majority of places around the world have no idea.

What are the benefits of a smart building?

Sustainability, DATA and wellness

Who has been the biggest influence in your career?

As cliché as it is I’d have to say my parents. Seeing their work ethic and determination while growing up helped mould me into who I am today.

What is the question you are most often asked in your business life?

“Why is this not in every building?” – There's a common misconception that our technology is complex. However, once people grasp how straightforward, scalable, and dependable our low voltage lighting and sensor technology is, their response is overwhelmingly positive.

What are the best/worst things about your job?

Best: Traveling the world and every day bringing a new challenge. Worst: Naysayers, downers and the misinformed.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry?

Build a tribe of trusted advisors from various industries and never stop trying to learn.


What living person do you admire and why?

My wife because she is my rock and the most amazing mother to our two daughters.

Where would you most like to live?

I am fortunate to live in a little slice of paradise but If I had to move Brazil, Portugal or Australia would be my top choices.

Too many. From a business/leadership perspective I’d recommend Turn the Ship Around by David Marquet

Spending time with the wife and kids, golfing and fishing
