How did you become involved in the Smart Buildings industry?
A previous employer of mine is a serial entrepreneur and had brought laser tag to the UK. We developed arenas and effects across Europe for five years spearheading this form of leisure. Interactive TV studios came next and these technologies all morphed our skill set perfectly into smart buildings. An industry peer introduced me to JUNG and things took off from there.
What excites you about the Smart Buildings industry?
Innovation and simplicity all perfectly formed together. That, and waiting for the inevitable mass take up of smart technology.
Are there any particular technologies that we should be aware of, but are currently under the radar?
Thinking systems and personal algorithms are all just around the corner. Domestic and work place robotics are also set to play an enormous part in our lives too.

KNX UK offers a resource and hub for all KNX activities within the UK.
Are people aware of the regulations that they will need to comply with in the near future?
Regulations are drip fed over time to parties that are required to adhere to them. Suppliers and wholesalers have an important part to play with education programs and training. Generally regulations are discussed over extended periods and industry plays a large part in both their formulation and implementation.
What are the benefits of a smart building?
The benefits are being able to exploit the best of your building’s efficiencies and improving the benefits felt. Also allowing the building to easily adapt over time to new ideas and initiatives.
Who has been the biggest influence in your career?
My Grandfather. He believed in hard work and good client interaction.
