Community and district heating specialist Switch2 Energy has once again reached the finals of the European Smart Energy Award for excellence in smart metering.
The company's UK designed and manufactured Incontro smart energy meter has been nominated for the Smart Home Innovation of the Year Award.
This follows Switch2's success in the prestigious awards in 2016, when it won European Smart Metering Technology of the Year Award and was a finalist in two more categories.
Kirsty Lambert, director of Switch2 said: "It's an honour to reach the final of these European Awards for the second year running. Our Incontro technology is a next generation smart metering and energy prepayment system - developed for the community and district heating sector. Our smart meters are already being used by more than 23,000 homes to help residents monitor and control their energy consumption and pay only for what they use – either on a convenient pay-as-you-go basis or via credit billing."
Housing providers from both the private and social sectors are using Switch2's smart metering to manage costs, reduce the risk of debt and achieve carbon reduction targets.
Incontro is a flexible energy system that combines either prepayment or credit billing with energy monitoring and control.,
The smart meter serves multiple purposes for residents, who can pay for their energy and budget accurately, while also programming, controlling and monitoring their energy use. They have full visibility of how much energy they are using and can view their carbon footprint via a 7 inch colour touch screen display. This is leading to energy efficiency savings and lower bills.
Switch2 Energy provides continuous remote monitoring and management of all Incontro smart meters from its Yorkshire customer service centre. Its experienced customer support advisers are on hand to provide billing, prepayment and administration services to more than 69,000 homes across 430 community energy and district heating schemes.
The European awards will enter their eighth year in 2017 and recognise outstanding practice in smart technology within the utilities sector. The finals will take place on 2 February 2017 at the Smart Energy UK and Europe Summit in London.
