Schulte-Schlagbaum (SAG) has introduced the Smart Line product line, an innovative solution for the wireless and battery-free integration of doors into modern building automation systems. The core of the technology is an energy-harvesting switch from ZF, which converts mechanical energy – for example, through the operation of the door handle or latch – into electrical energy, enabling wireless transmission according to the EnOcean standard.
SAG Smart Line is the first mortise lock program equipped with EnOcean wireless technology, making the integration of doors into building automation particularly efficient and sustainable. To enhance building security, the mortise locks of the SAG Smart Line allow the lock status in the door (position of the bolt and handle) to be transmitted proactively.
The radio locks of the SAG Smart Line use mechanical energy (from pressing the handle or moving the bolt) to generate the necessary energy for a radio transmission with the help of the ZF energy harvesting generator. Energy harvesting eliminates the limitations of wired power supply or batteries in wireless technologies. Since over 90% of buildings are existing properties, these wireless solutions are primarily suitable for retrofitting. By replacing the existing mortise locks in the building with SAG Smart Line door locks, building doors can be cost-effectively upgraded in the short term during ongoing operations or integrated into building automation.
This makes building control and management sustainable, comfortable, and cost-saving at the same time.
As a wire- and battery-free solution and due to its very small and compact design, the ZF Energy Harvester stands out for its high level of flexibility, allowing individual customer requirements to be met. This makes the ZF solution completely maintenance-free and enables it to be used elegantly and resource-efficiently in building automation. In addition to the EnOcean wireless standard, which is implemented for the SAG Smart Line door locks, other protocols such as KNX-RF, Bluetooth, or customized solutions can also be realized with the ZF Energy Harvester.
