The DBC has launched its initial Working Groups and Best Practice Guides that enable members to collaborate on its stated goals, encourage membership expansion and form partnerships with other relevant trade bodies and initiatives.
The Digital Buildings Council (DBC) was launched earlier this year by industry specialists who aim to enhance best practice and drive demand for digital buildings. This month, the DBC introduced its initial Working Groups and Best Practice Guides, following the election of Executive Officers at its inaugural founding members AGM.
Jess Costanzo, commercial director at Simmtronic Smart Lighting Controls and DBC Chairperson, explained: “Having completed the governance and structural matters necessary for our setting-up as a not-for-profit social enterprise, the DBC Working Groups and accompanying Best Practice Guides enable members to collaborate on our initial goals, focusing on key issues that the founding members identified as crucial for the digital buildings market to reach its full potential” The two main Working Groups and the three initial Best Practice Guides are as follows:
Working Groups:
- Project scoping, planning and success metrics
- Project costing and the business case
Best Practice Guides:
- Linking BIM and Smart Enablement
- Role of the MSI
- S & G also in ESG
Kevin Brownell, director at digital design consultancy NuXform and DBC secretary added: “These smaller, agile and more representative working groups focus on building upon and plugging gaps in existing frameworks. They are the basis for how we plan to expand membership and why we are actively forming partnerships with other relevant trade bodies and initiatives.
The guides specifically help us address evolving practice areas or issues to help break down silos and provide the clarity and assurance needed to help drive demand.” Mike Hook, director and owner of Master Systems Integrator LMG and DBC treasurer, elaborated: “Providing clarity and practically filling gaps is what the DBC is about, with the overarching gap still being between construction and operations as their increasing digitalisation drives many of our planned working group initiatives. The surrounding discussion about digitally bridging the project-operations gap is likely to drive several additional interrelated initiatives.”
The DBC is an association partner of the Smart Buildings Show and will be exhibiting this year, offering delegates an opportunity to hear more about what they are up to. Several founding members will be participating in the conference where they will be discussing some of the underlying industry challenges the DBC aims to address.
